“Jack of all trades is a master of none…”

We have all heard this saying countless times right? The phrase is usually meant sarcastically and is most certainly not a compliment - “Careful you don’t just become a jack of all trades.”, or “Remember, no one wants a jack of all trades!”.

Interestingly, the complete saying was originally “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one. It was formerly intended as a compliment! It means that a person is a generalist rather than a specialist, versatile and adept at many things.

This talk is based on the talent stack concept that Scott Adams first touched on in his book, How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big, back in 2013 and then further explains in a number of blogposts leading up to and after the 2016 US Elections. Donald Trump took centre stage as he was the perfect case study and in fact Adams predicted his election win because of the phenomenal talent stack he possesses.

It’s a talk that will help your team to understand that systematically growing a number of average skills can make them incredibly valuable to their team, your business and even the world. A mix of skills that no one else has is a damn valuable commodity.
